Mid Century Modern dresser refinished

I have been so busy lately! I have recently started working again, so it's been a little challenging to find time for my hobby. It took me while to refinish this one because I was only doing it during nap time.
I love how it turned out, though!
I really wanted a mid century modern dresser for my three year old. I needed something that would last a while, be more masculine and be timeless, so I decided on this style. I looked on Etsy, and the prices were outrageous, considering that my budget is...well...cheap.
I started looking on Craigslist. After about a month if searching, I found this dresser listed for $150. When I saw it in person, it had more damage than I could see in the pictures, so I asked if she would take $120. She said yes, and we loaded it up. It's a great deal, mainly because I planned on fixing the damage just by sanding down through the finish.
Here it is...

Same dresser as mine, but not the one I bought. I didn't take any before pics, sorry! Just so you can get an idea of what the original color looked like.

Totally sanded down...

Mid staining...

Stained! It came out too red for my liking, so I dragged my kids over to Lowes again and found a stain that added a bit more brown to the final color. I should have conditioned the wood before I stained, but I used three coats total and then used a spray satin polyurethane to finish it. It turned out great! Here it is in his room...

The lighting in his room is not the greatest so the pictures didn't come out that great, but you get the idea.

Summertime flea markets

Summertime is right around the corner and that means flea markets are going to start getting busy with vendors again. Which means that we need to have great stuff! We have been on the lookout for some great pieces and we have found them! Also, I am so excited to announce that my hubby will be working with us now! He is a finished carpenter, so he can make just about anything.
Here are some pictures of we are working on today. I know, we have a ton of work to do for the flea market tomorrow at Urban Barn in Escondido, but I know that with the Lords strength we can get it done.

Chandelier Stamp Art

My mom is redecorating her bedroom, and was looking for a fun way to add a pop of color without spending a lot of money. This is what she came up with...

Supplies needed
Craft paint
Small paint brush or foam brush
Mod podge
Canvas
Rhinestones
Stamping ink
Stamp
Gem tack glue
Scissors

First, you will want to determine how large you want your finished piece to be, then buy a canvas that fits those measurements. Also buy the rest of your supplies if you don't already have them.
Pick a stamp and, with black ink, stamp on a clean white piece of paper. If you want it to be more faded and rustic, then you don't have make a clean stamp. Otherwise, this may take a few tries to get it right.
Take your stamped piece of paper and canvas down to Kinkos and have them enlarge it for you. Thankfully copies are cheap because this will take a few tries until you find the right size for your canvas. In this step, you decide how big you want the picture on your canvas, so just eyeball it.
Paint your canvas with at least two coats of craft paint. You can use a foam brush or a smaller paint brush. Let dry.

Cut around picture and place on canvas to get an idea for placement.
Apply Mod Podge to back of paper only, DO NOT put Mod Podge on top of picture, as it will make the ink bleed and ruin the picture.
Press all edges down firmly and let dry.
With Gem Tack glue, apply a small amount onto the back of the rhinestones and place on the picture where ever it needs some sparkle. Let dry.
With the clear coat spray paint, apply two light coats.
When dry, attach ribbon to the back with a staple gun.
Finished!

Polka dot Coffee Table

I LOVE pattern, and I really like chevron. I love painting a random piece of furniture that we come across at a yard sale in some funky and unexpected way. I paint almost every table top that comes my way in a chevron pattern(big seller at the flea markets), and that's what I was about to do with this little gem until it hit me....POLKA DOTS!
Perfect for covering a table top with unsightly marks on top! I blurted it out, and my mom looked at me like I was crazy. Well I am...a little bit, but just enough to keep things interesting ;)
So I gathered my materials...

Materials needed
Paint color of choice
(I used a teal-ish color from the Valspar Summer line)
Thick paper (poster board)
Scissors
Painters tape
Paint brush
Table

Trace and cut dots out of your poster board paper

my cute little helper

Place your dots and the table. Move them and play around with the placement if needed.
Take a piece of painters tape and roll the tape around your fingers and put on the back of the dots.
Secure dots to table with painters tape.
Put painters tape around the edge of table if needed.

Get your favorite paint brush and paint 2 coats onto table. I distressed my table at the end so I wasn't worried about complete coverage.

Remove tape and dots while paint is still a little wet.
With a damp cloth, clean up the inside of the dots from any run away paint.

Let paint dry and distress with sand paper.
Rub on a little furniture wax to protect the table top from liquid.

Done! Quick, easy and cute! Total time spent was about 45 minutes and I did this all inside with the door opened a bit for ventilation.

I was going to sell this, but now I'm thinking of keeping it. Oh my. ;)
